                         Welcome to the Indigenous Education Department!

 

All children who have Indigenous ancestry are eligible to receive services through the Indigenous Education Department in the Central Okanagan Public Schools.  Indigenous Student Advocates and Certified Teachers assist students to help them succeed in school.  Services that our staff provides are outlined below:

 

Elementary School:

  • In-class support                                                                  

  • District cultural programs                                                   

  • Cultural presentations in the class and the school           

  • Cultural field studoes

  • Math/Language Arts assistance

  • School-home connection

  • Homework clubs

 

Middle School:

  • Academic assistance

  • Homework Clubs/Indigenous Leadership Classes

  • Cultural presentations

  • School, home & community connections

  • Cultural field studies

Secondary School:

  • Coursework assistance provided by certified teachers

  • Assistance with course selection, decision-making, etc.

  • School-home & community connections

  • Grade 12 Graduation Celebration and Grad Cultural Retreats

  • Indigenous Career Fairs

  • Indigenous Leadership/English First Peoples/First Nations 12 Courses

 

Every Indigenous Student Advocate has Indigenous ancestry and they look forward to meeting your child and connecting with you to provide the best support they can. Our goal is to see an Indigenous student who enters Kindergarten graduate with dignity, purpose and options.
